BEAUMONT Athletic are celebrating after winning the Umbro international tournament.
They competed in the open category of the Manchester tournament, which featured teams from Spain and Egypt.
The club had a mediocre start to the group stages drawing the first game 1-1 with local side AFC Lockstock Hall, but bounced back to beat Stockport Athletic 4-1 in their second game.
They continued winning ways in their last group game beating Spanish side FC Velacay 1-0.
This result saw them qualify for the quarter-finals, after finishing second in the group.
Next they met English side Old Trafford.
Beaumont were leading going into the latter stages of the game, but a late equaliser from their opposition forced the match into penalties.
Beaumont keeper Jason Hartless saved the deciding penalty to send them through to the semi-finals.
The semi-final was against their rivals from the group stages AFC Lockstock. Once again the Beaumont keeper was called into action, saving a first half penalty keeping the game level at half-time.
In the second half, substitute Justin Zakaria’s scored the winner to put Beaumont into the final.
There they met English team Broadway Urmston and started well, creating the best of the early chances, before Justin Zakaria opened the scoring.
Shortly after Dobir Miah converted a penalty kick to give them a 2-0 lead at the break - a lead Beaumont held on to to become champions.
Team manager Mamun Chowdhury said: “It’s a very proud moment for all of us involved with the club to win such a big tournament. Some of the football we played was excellent. Our player of the tournament was Jason Hartless who made crucial saves.”
