Families in Wapping now have their very own place to learn together, after Wapping Children’s Centre was officially opened on Wednesday 14 May.

The centre is the biggest of its kind in Tower Hamlets, and includes a nursery and both indoor and outdoor play facilities for children under five and their families to enjoy together. An additional space available for meetings, classes and events means the centre can also be used by the whole community.

Around 200 people attended the fun-packed launch, with the Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Cllr Ann Jackson officially declaring the centre open. Face-painting, story telling and a children’s entertainer were all on hand to ensure the centre got off to a fun-packed start.

Cllr Clair Hawkins, Lead Member for Children’s Services said:

“Children’s centres offer a fantastic service to families in Tower Hamlets, and it’s great news that people in the Wapping area will now also be able to make the most of this new centre.

“The centres help both young children and their families, and this new centre will allow even more children in the borough to have the best possible start in life.”

Children’s centres run a range of services that allow families to play and learn together in a fun environment, and are available to residents across Tower Hamlets. As well as a variety of play and learning sessions for children available at the centres, there is also additional support and advice for parents. Parents can use the centres to find out details of affordable childcare, as well as employment and training opportunities available locally.
